Botox Injections

Botox Injections from a Eugene, OR Medical Professional

In today’s world, the pressure to look youthful is greater than ever. And although a number of creams and serums claim to moisturize your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, these options aren’t always effective or at least effective enough. We offer residents of Eugene, OR and the surrounding area the option of Botox injections, which provides much more substantial results. Not to mention, Botox helps correct certain medical issues.

What is Botox?

Botox injections consist of onabotulinumtoxin and comprised of a protein produced by Clostridium botulinum. The protein affects the nerves. It prevents them from producing the proteins necessary for nerve activation. By stopping this process, the nerves are basically paralyzed, which corrects crow’s feet, fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox is also effective at treating migraines, overactive bladder, multiple sclerosis, excessive sweating and muscle spasms because of how it affects the nerves. The injection is given at or near the site where you’re experiencing the problem. If you’re using Botox for cosmetic purposes, our specialist will inject where you have wrinkles or fine lines. If you have overactive bladder, we’ll inject the medication into the urethra. For headaches and migraines, we’ll administer the medication into your head or neck.

Number of Sessions Needed

The number of injections you will need and how frequently you should return for additional treatments depends on why you’re using Botox. We will give you three injections to reduce crow’s feet. They’re given where the muscles frame the side of your eyes. Generally, we administer five injections for frown lines.

The results tend to last for up to four months, but most people still see a difference after the four months. You may only need to receive Botox twice per year for overactive bladder. You can expect to spend 30 minutes in our office per session for overactive bladder. Those who use Botox for migraines may require up to 31 injections. Each session will last between 10 to 15 minutes. Depending on the severity and frequency of your migraines, we will be able to determine how often you should receive Botox injections. We may administer injections for migraines once every 12 weeks.

When to Expect Results

Some people notice they see a difference in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in as little as 24 to 48 hours; however, it may take longer for you to see the full results. If you use Botox for overactive bladder, you will start to notice you’ll have less leakage and fewer episodes of leakage in as little as two weeks.

Risks of Botox

Generally, Botox is well tolerated. The most common issue associated with Botox is pain and stiffness at the injection site. You might have temporary weakness around the injection site. These side effects tend to subside within a few days of the treatment.

Although it’s rare, the active ingredient in Botox may spread to other areas besides the injection site. This can cause drooping eyelids, vision changes, voice changes and hoarseness, loss of bladder control, difficulty swallowing and muscle weakness.
