What Is A Botox Injection?
Have you ever wondered if there was a way to reclaim the smooth, youthful looking appearance to your skin? If you have crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles on your face, a Botox injection may be the perfect tool in your skin care tool kit!
Of course, eating healthy food, drinking enough water, getting enough exercise, and protecting your skin from the sun are necessary to improve the feel and appearance of your skin. However, a Botox injection may be the perfect solution to even further enhance your natural beauty.
Here’s how it works: our naturopathic doctor will inject the Botox medication (made from a purified protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria) into an area on your face that has wrinkles or fine lines. The medication blocks the release of a certain neurotransmitter, reducing the ability of some facial muscles to contract, thus smoothing and softening the skin.
One session takes approximately 10 minutes–and results can last up to 4 months!
Is Botox Safe?
Yes! Millions of Botox injection procedures are administered every year in the United States, and the risk of adverse effects or complications is extremely low. Mild side effects may occur, such as localized redness or swelling. Certain people, including those with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS or myasthenia gravis, are more at risk for complications. If you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to any ingredient within the Botox injection, you may not be eligible for this procedure.
Our medical staff will carefully review your family and personal health history to ensure that our FDA approved Botox treatment will be appropriate for you.
Does It Hurt To Get A Botox Injection?
Most of our patients report a tingling sensation or mild discomfort while receiving a Botox injection. A topical anesthetic applied to the target injection site can be used.
Is Botox Used For Any Other Medical Reason?
Botox isn’t just helpful to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment can also be successfully used to treat hyperhidrosis, a medical condition that causes excessive underarm sweating. Our naturopathic physician Dr. Morse can provide these treatments, as well.
But that’s not all! Currently, there is FDA approved Botox treatment for migraine headaches, severe neck spasms, strabismus (crossed eyes), and overactive bladder.
